This 17-year-old Silver Birch bonsai is quite stylish. It’s also called the Betula pendula bonsai or “The Lady of the Woods.” This living bonsai has a trunk that flows in a strong yet gentle way, with clean lines and uncluttered appearance.
I really like how the trunk sweeps to make the top canopy support with lower branches. The lines are clean and the design is simple, which makes it easy to see the whole pretty bonsai.

The bark has taken on those wonderful silvery striations and natural cragginess that only comes with time — it really does capture the spirit of an English woodland tree.
The design is fascinating too — almost a semi-raft style, with the trunk rising from the soil before splitting into two distinct characters: one with a subtle upright form (creating the main back branch) and the other forming the main flow of the tree with a lovely, soft movement. I particularly adore the tiny branch sprouting low down at the base — such a sweet little detail that adds charm and authenticity.
The fluttering, heart-shaped leaves are full of lightness and life, and the overall proportions are excellent — it’s a bonsai that will only get better with time. Even the pot, a glossy lighter blue ceramic, sets it off beautifully. This is a very special tree with a lot of soul.”
